I recently lost a brother-in-law and had my sister send me his ties. I started out making a quilt in 28 x 28 inch blocks. It was very large. Before sewing the blocks together I asked if she would rather have wall hangings made to share with her children. I made nine wall hangings from his ties with his picture in the middle of each ring of ties. Delivered them last week, and they absolutely loved them. Attaching a picture of what they would have looked like as a quilt just laying them beside each other. One by itself that read Richard's Ties and the date of his birth and death.

Thanks everybody. I wasn't sure what I would do with all those ties, but I'm glad you like them. It was fun to create and make someone happy.

My step dad just passed away a few weeks ago, and I have asked my mom for all his ties .. I wanted to make a memory wall hanging for his son, John, who loved his dad dearly.. I will have some beautiful ties to use, and thought the dresden thing would be first choice in deciding how to use them.. Then I saw your memory quilt here ( thanks to my friend who sent me here ), and knew it was perfect for memoralizing my step dad in this way.. I am sorry for your loss, too... but so proud of you for creating a legacy of love for your family members.
