Tonights experiment

I really loved the scrappy dresden posted by leatheflea the other day. It got me thinking about what could be done with my leftover string blocks, so tonight I cut them up into dresden blades and here's the result. I really like them. I've been wanting to do a quilt with circles, these may just the thing. Thank you leatheflea for the inspiration! In one of my previous posts I was asked for a better pic of my fur baby so I am including one here. My 95 lb. best pal, Dillinger, always by my side.

Great blocks. Love your fur baby. Love German shepards
What a great idea on the blocks!! I was just telling my husband the other day that if I were to get a dog I would want a German Shepherd. He is beautiful!
love your colours nice
awesome idea. I can't wait to get more scraps. lol
great idea for colorful scraps! I'm not sure I'm ready for circles yet but it does look inviting. German shepherds are wonderful dogs and this one looks like he could be a great friend. Mine would keep after me until we went for a walk each day ... I really miss him for that.
Love, love, love the dresdens! And the fur baby!
Very nice dresdens and also like your puppy!
Great looking Dresden circles! Also beautiful dog!
Love your blocks and love your fur baby too.
Great looking circles!
Love your circles! They are so colorful and look great. Also, what a beautiful Shepard. Great dogs.
Ahhh good looking best friend you have there. Love the plates you made also. can't wait to see what you come up with for the final quilt.
After making the Dresdan circles, how will you put your quilt together? Just wondering. Be sure and show us when you get it together. I love scrappy, no matter what pattern is used.
that's going to be be a really fun quilt. Love the scrap circles.
Awesome dresdens!
nicely done
Neat idea!
Love your furbaby. Makes me miss mine. I called him my "overlap" dog because if a bad storm came through he would try to jump into my lap. He was not as big as yours, only about 60 pounds but too big for my lap. I would sit on the floor with him and hug him until the storm quieted down. |
What a great idea!
The blocks look great, can't wait to see the completed top. You fur baby is gorgeous.
Love both. I miss my departed German sheppard. She was MY first dog and I loved her till the end. The string circles are very inventive. You are one smart quilter. Hats off to you. Hugs
Like your block and love your furbaby. I have owned 4 German Shepherds over time. They are my favorite breed.
why, oh why is he on a chain?
And where else would you want him to be? He's pretty. We had a retriever, shepherd, pitbull mix (Buddy). He was the best but never cared to be inside.
What a great twist on an old favorite!
Your string Dresden rings are beautiful! Great idea! Also love your fur baby -- our last big dog was a Shepherd, we loved her like crazy and she had a nice long life with us....she always wanted to be in our laps (thought she was a lap dog!). Now that we have small dogs, they always think they're German Shepherds!
What a great way to use up scraps. The creativity of our QB members is amazing.
Nice Dresden plates sweet dog.
What a great idea! I love these blocks....and that furbaby of yours is a real doll! My 83 year old parents have one that looks similar....except theirs is over 100 pounds....not fat just BIG!
Love them both!
OMG! I LOVE them. Never would have thought about doing a Dresden like that. I have been wanting to make a Dresden for a long time and haven't done it. But you are inspiring me beyond belief! My DH just walked through and I showed him your pic and he said " Now I really like that, it's neat!" We both love scrappy. Thank you sew much for sharing your pic, would love to see pic when it is completed!...
I was so excited I forgot to tell you your shep. is gorgeous! |
What a gorgeous furbaby, reminds me of our last Shepherd Tara. Love the blocks, that will be gorgeous when made into a quilt.

Nice dresden, Love the shepherd! Looks so much- almost exactly like my Jasmine!! I lost her in '07 to a fast, aggressive strain of Lymphosarcoma, makes me want to bury my head in his scruffy neck. Sniff, sniff, thanks for the memories.
The quilt is quite nice, I hope one day do a dresden plate. |
Great job. Turned out great. Fur baby thinks so too.
Now this is CLEVER. You will certain spur the creative juices in many of us. I have tons of scraps, mine and friends who give them to me. This might be yet another way to use them up. Thank you for sharing.. just very clever.
