Here is a picture of a quilt that I just finished hand quilting for my oldest daughter. She had made the quilt top and began the hand quilting for her sister's Christmas I believe in 2003. She went to work and with two daughters of her own, didn't get back to the quilting. What makes this quilt so special is the fact that my daughter's best friend had a "quilting day" with her and some of the hand stitches are from her. She passed away suddenly at the age of 35 years old. I took the quilt home with me (I live in Maine and daughters live inIllinois) this past January. I finished the hand quilting and was able to keep all previous stitiching in tact. My youngest daughter finally got her Christmas Present for 2003 in June 2007!! She loves it.. It is filled with lots of love and memories. ENjoy..Susan[img]

Rail fence, stitched in ditch with wide boarder and random stars quilted into it.

Beautiful quilt, and what a lovely story!

What a gorgeous quilt. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story. I am sure the quilt will be all the more precious because of the fact that it took so many loving hands to complete.

My grandmother made a beautiful quilt top for me about 20 years ago. The center squares were embroidered and set with stars pieced in every corner. My cousin said she would hand quilt it for me, and haven't seen or heard about my quilt since. She has remarried several times, and moved more than an entire page in my address book, so I am pretty sure I will never see my quilt again. I would give almost anything to have the top back, finished or not. My grandmother is 95 and very healthy for her age, but unable to do embroidery or quilt. She had completed enough tops for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. I was lucky enough to get the quilt tops for my sons and plan to have them quilted professionally just to make sure that they will have them to pass on to their children.

The story that goes with this quilt makes it even more special. How wonderful you could finish it for her.
