My mom bought this pattern and started making these purses. It's from Quiltsillustrated.com and is called the Bow Tucks Tote. Cute play on words.

Anyhoo, I liked it so much, I asked her to make me one using this cool fabric I bought two years ago at the quilt show in Lancaster.

She did. Then she taught me how to make them and here are some of our tote bags.

How cute! Tote bags are all the rage! I just love the fabrics you used on them. Tres chic!

Most of these are Christmas presents and only a distant memory.

Some more:

Those are absolutely fabulous!!! I gotta say though, that first one, my favorite hands down!! that is really the coolest fabric I've ever seen I do believe!!

I like to take pictures for my memories, but I've made so many of these now, I've forgotten half of them.

No matter how skilled I get at making them, they are time consuming to make. There's a lot of stuff to do to make them and there's no way around it, it takes me half a day.

Cordelia 04-30-2008 05:38 PM

Thanks. I haven't dusted the chalk off of some of those yet. :)

I've made three of the first one and can't keep 'em. My mom's made one and I have fabric enough to make another. But, can't find the fabric anymore. And friends are requesting them.

In fact, I've gotta get about five more yards of it if I can find it. It's available online, but the store where I bought it sold out.

It's Benartex's Madame Butterfly, purple/lime. Paula Nadelstern, Guilded Opulence line. And the striped fabric is in the same line.

Each bag is lined with the same fabric that's on the bottom and there are pockets inside that are the same fabric as the focus top fabric.

I keep coming back to your blue tote, I have a mojor case of tote envy

Cordelia 05-03-2008 05:35 AM

Thanks, everybody. But, that "blue" tote is really electric purple and lime.

It's from Benartex and it's Madame Butterfly from the Guilded Opulence line.

The striped pattern on the bottom is in the same line, but I don't remember the name of it.

It is striking, that's what caught my eye to it to make a tote with. And, it's the one bag I can't keep around. All my friends snatch them up. And, the store I got it from is sold out of the fabric. I've bought five yards off the bolt myself.

But, you can get the quilt pattern from Quiltsillustrated.com if your fabric store doesn't have it.

And I have other totes to upload ...

Love the totes! I'm wondering, we have a store close by that sells upholstery fabric, both by the piece and by the yard. Really cheap! How do you think this design would turn out using the upholstery fabric?

motomom 06-18-2009 01:13 PM

Very Cute!

sew_lulu 06-18-2009 02:02 PM

I have the pattern and forgotten about it. I guess I'll have to take it out and make a tote this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration.

sewaholic 06-18-2009 02:39 PM

Geez if I could make something in half a day I would be so excited.
I envy you.

I BOUGHT THIS PATTERN LAST YEAR WHEN SHE FIRST SHOWED IT TO US AND MADE SEVERAL, I TOO WAS THINKING ABOUT UPHOLSTERY FABS, I THINK IT WOULD WORK FINE EXCEPT MAYBE A THINNER INNERFACING, GUESS SOMEBODY SHOULD TRY IT!

Mousie 06-19-2009 07:41 AM

I'd rather use upholstery fabric. I make my totes about 14" x 20", sometimes, so I can haul my qu mags or books along with the rest of the kitchen sink.

joann hussey 06-19-2009 11:59 AM
