Ok, here are some pictures of the train car quilt I made for my nephew. Remember I am a beginner and this is my first quilt. I have to even the sides up and add borders. I'll post another picture again when the borders are on.

Your quilt is turning out really, really cute. How ever did you make that little tractor on the flat bed? Are you sure you're only a beginner?

Kyiav10 12-10-2007 02:28 PM

Thank you Yvonne. For the tractor...I cut out a piece of fabric that had the tractor on it and then hand stitched it on. I counldn't get my machine to zig zag it on nicely, not that the tractor looks that great. I was contemplating on taking it out. If I leave it on I have to get fabric markers and color in the tan thread that shows on the tractor.

jbsstrawberry 12-10-2007 02:47 PM

I think the tractor looks great!!! I wouldn't color the thread, for fear it might bleed when it's washed into the white. I've seen a lot of applique work where the thread was a contrasting color and it's always looked great!! You're doing a wonderful job!!

That's quiet a train car for a "beginner"! You did great! My grandson loves trains also, did you use a pattern or make it up yourself. You really did do a wonderful job on it!

You did a great job! I love your quilt, it is going to be beautiful.

ShellyQ 12-12-2007 01:20 AM

Ah here it is, I've been looking for this since I saw the pics of your tree blocks earlier. It looks Great, so much detail in the trains, I love the tractor :P , that's a nice touch and I wouldn't worry about the thread not matching, sometimes is nice to have a contrast. Your weeping willows look really good with the trains. A really lovely quilt

Cathe 12-12-2007 08:03 AM

It looks great, and I like the tractor, too! I was just looking at your weeping willow blocks again yesterday... I want to do something like that!

I've been quilting a while and I'd not be able to handle that!! You're doing great!! WOW!! Is it a combination of applique and piecing? Some little boy sure is going to be smiling!! :D

annmarie 01-27-2008 07:57 AM

Thanks Kyiav - we really needed to see the whole thing again. It is so cool.

Kyiav10 01-27-2008 10:34 AM

It is peiced. The only appliqued is the tractor which I didn't do a very good job on. Oh, well. I'll keep it.

Thanks for the compliments, Kyia.

joannl 01-28-2008 04:52 PM

This a wonderful quilt! Don't change anything with the tractor, you did a great job.

henryparrish76 01-28-2008 06:55 PM

I would love this pattern so I can make a smaller sized quilt so I could give it to one of our Autistic kids who loves all things train.

lillybeck 09-29-2012 02:59 PM

OMG this quilt is so cute. Great job. I have made a lot of quilts and some of them do not look this good.

ElaoineHart 08-14-2016 05:52 AM

Where you able to find the pattern? I had printed it off several years ago from a free pattern site, but have misplaced it and would like to make another. There were two did different engines, flatbed, boxcar, passenger car, 2 different caboose. Not sure if that was all of them. I never thought to put anything on the flatbed. Great idea. Still looking for the pattern if anyone remembers where it is. Thanks

SewingSew 08-14-2016 06:17 AM

This is an adorable quilt! It does not look like a beginner made it. I would love to make one for my grandson. He loves trains. Could you please share pattern info?

BrendaK 08-14-2016 10:31 AM

That's some awesome piecing... paper piecing? Really excellent for a first, fifth or 200th quilt!

smagruder 08-15-2016 02:51 AM

So adorable. My grandson would go bonkers over it. I agree, are you sure you are a beginner? Lol
