Trucking Memories

4 Attachment(s)
This quilt is for my dad. It started with the intention of using up some old work T-Shirts he had from his truck driving days but as they were in very poor condition I could only use the Logos. So I found this great truck fabric which I saw on this board, thank you to that person for showing it. Bought some on line and attached logos to the trailer end of some of the trucks. The back has the only two large pieces of fabric I had but they were so hard to work with colour wise that I put them on the back and then just kept the large piece of truck fabric for the front. The boys in my house really liked it so I decided not to cut it up and just work with it as it was. It is backed with fleece for extra warmth as dad needs this due to poor health these days. Not my usual style of quilt but it fits the requirements well I think. Hope the pictures work out o.k. I still have to sew the binding down and sew in all the threads but here it is.

Isn't that a neat idea? What a unique, awesome quilt! And super snuggly with the fleece! What a good daughter you are!

I like this quilt so much - not only for the work you did, but because you used something that means much to your Dad and is full of memories for him. I recently made a quilt using train fabric for a friend who is going through chemo treatments and he called to say how much the quilt meant to him because he has model trains. I now know that using a fabric and embellishments that means something special to the person ( especially men) receiving the quilt really touches their heart and spirit.

For those of you have asked me - I got this fabric from www.backdoorquiltshoppe.com. It is one of the first truck fabrics I found that looks more mature and the colours seemed to go well with the Logos I had. THanks for all the feed back.

Thanks for that story. I think you are right - the sentiment will go down well. It was hard to break away from my more scrappy like quilts but I am now pleased I did it with the receiver in mind and not just what I like.

Such a shame for you. Like you that is what I originally had in mind. Chop it up, frame each truck with patches from clothing etc etc but I was lucky enough to have some boys in my house who loved the farbic as it was so that made me rethink. This board is also such a great place for inspiration.
