I finally finished this twisted log cabin wall hanging just in time to enter it into our local guild quilt show. I have more pictures of the show's quilts but would like to wait until I know who won "viewers choice" awards before I post them here.
The quilting was done by the LQS. They did a stitch-in-the-ditch, which is all you really can do with a quilt like this. Twisted Log Cabin |
WOW!! That's pretty!! Love the colors!! They just POP on that black!

Absolutely stunning!!!

SPECTACULAR !!

Absolutely beautiful!! :-)

Stunning.

Thanks everyone. It took a long time to do (about 1.5 years), but it really wasn't that hard. I just had to keep putting it up to do something else. This was my first try at paper piecing, and I actually love it. No precise cutting, no precise 1/4 inch piecing. Even the black is paper pieced.
|
Think I'll change my avatar. Never really liked the other quilt. Actually gave it away for a fund-raiser.
|
WOW that is beautiful! The black really makes the colors POP! I haven't seen this paper piecing pattern before do you mind telling where the pattern came from. Great job
|
Love it.

FABULOUS!! Thank you for sharing.
|
That is SOOOO beautiful. I bought the paper piecing papers for that last year at Paducah, but have not been brave enough to attempt it yet. Yours makes me want to start it, if I can find it! :?
|
That is really stunning!! Even paper pieced that is quite an undertaking. A work of art---I am sure every one at the quilt show enjoyed your entry!!!

Wish you could here me whistle.....cause I am.......I have this pattern but thought that is to hard.....you did a fabulous job for sure......:-)

Here are two sites. The first one explains it the best and the second site has the paper pieced pattern that you can download.
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_qlt/article/0,2045,DIY_15080_2505350,00.html http://hiddenthreads.today.com/category/advanced/ (bottom of page) If this doesn't work, it is in the book Borders and Finishing Touches II. Just a few hints: (You might want to do just one color star first to get a hang of it before attempting the whole quilt. You can always make a pillow out of this) 1. Remember to cut 1/4 inch seam allowance around each triangle block when it is completed. 2. Be careful on the 1/2 triangle blocks for the ends, leave the 1/4 inch seam allowance on all three sides. 3. Cut each triangle out and tape it in place (with the inked side facing down and then lightly color (on the wrong side of the vellum paper) what color goes where. Some triangles will have three colors on it and they have to match up with the other triangles around it. 4. Use very small stitches (and back stitch ends). Tearing the paper off is easier with small stitches. 5. I found that taking the paper off before I sewed a row together was easier than leaving it on. Anyway, if I can help in any way, just PM me. |
Awesome! I think it's moving!! :D

Okay, now I want to learn paper piecing. I looked at the links and it looks like iris paper folding. LOVE the movement in your quilt - it looks like a bunch of windmills.

So awesome! Looks really hard to do. It's one of those I would love to have but would be afraid to try.
|
