I am making this for my husband. :D
He loves all things pertaining to the Civil War. I have been inspired by all of you who have done the URR Quilt. This quilt top has been a learning experience for me. I have only sewn a friendship star and a nine-patch block previous to this undertaking. I have had many days when I ripped out more than I sewed. I have learned so much in the process. :) Hubby helped me choose the fabrics and the backing for this quilt. :D He has a good eye for color. I love his choices. I do not know how I will quilt it. Hubby suggested quilt in the ditch. I want this quilt to hold up to everyday use. Please give me your suggestions and comments. Thank you all, Sandi |
Didn't mean for two pics of the backing.

Your blocks are wonderful! You certainly got a lot of practice making different kind of blocks.l
The backing fabric is really special, too! Lucky husband! |
Your underground rail road is really, really nice. I am sure you are proud of your results. That was a ton of work to make this quilt for him. I enjoy learning new blocks. Did you?
It is a very nice quilt for hubby. He must be thrilled!!! |
Thank you Joan.
I appreciate the encouragement. Hubby spied the backing at Hancocks when I was looking at the flannel. He called me over and said what do you think about this for the back. I just smiled and said that's it. Sandi

It is a very nice quilt for hubby. He must be thrilled!!! Thanks Red. I am very happy with the results. I so enjoy sewing and making things for others. I was very excited when the blocks turned out sorta looking like the ones in the pics. Some were smaller and some were larger, but I enjoyed making them all. Hubby is very happy. His smile was all I needed to see when I showed him the finished top. Sandi |
That's beautiful, and I love how your dh helped pick the fabrics!! That's such a special treasure for both of you.
For quilting, I don't know. What was the common quilting method of the day in the late 1800s? Surely someone here knows. |
That is just beautiful. You did a great job on it.
