UPDATE ~ wild black and white log cabin

1 Attachment(s)
i have the blocks halfway done :) what an accomplishment! me eyes are crossed! im amazed at how you can stare at it on the wall and not really see it and take a picture and BLAM there she is. i took your advice on the placement of the black strips; what do you think? does it look well enough to sew the blocks together? so far im really pleased; this quilt top is 'freeing'? its not so constrained and im really enjoying it :) i keep eyeballing my stash for when i get this one finished for its owner!
thank you all for the help and the advice. it was VERY much appreciated! keep it coming!

nice black and white

cat-on-a-mac 01-26-2013 08:49 PM

Looks great! Love black and white with that little bit of red. If you are sure that's the pattern you want, I don't see any reason not to sew your rows together. My problem with log cabins is that there are so many designs you can come up with; I can never decide! This one will be super!

cathyvv 01-26-2013 08:52 PM

Oh, my double vision is quadrupled! LOL - seriously, it's beautiful, and, as you say, freeing - and quilting is at least partly about freeing the imagination. Great work. So, yes, it is ready to start sewing the blocks together.

I love black, white, and a pop of red in quilts.

audsgirl 01-26-2013 09:12 PM

It's gorgeous! It looks like a nice layout to me. I know how eager we are to see it all together. So go ahead and sew.

That is coming together very well. I like how you placed the solid black strip. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

looks great -sew it together.taking a pic really helps to find errors in layout.I found that out taking a pic of a finished log cabin-after quilting.now I lay out on the bed and take a pic before sewing rows .your quilt is beautiful.

Sylvie45 01-27-2013 06:53 AM

I love your quilt. Using the solid black in the same position on every block was an excellent idea - I'm going to write that down!

gabeway 01-27-2013 07:21 AM

Really great colors! I like the layout. Reminds me of PacMan.

Lori S 01-27-2013 07:24 AM

The placement of the solid black really made a big difference. I like the way this is progressing.

terri bb 01-27-2013 09:30 AM

thanks guys! i am very glad i have good responses to this! NOW i will sew the blocks together and do the other half of the quilt top. my lqs owner Nona Davis ( i am SUCH a lucky gal to have her as a mentor! ) sparked me by telling me about the uneven blocks and the way they curve visually when put together. so of course i had to do a google search and in the process i found Barnbum's floral. oh Lord i can just imagine what that must look like on a bed in the bedroom in a dreary winter when all you see is snow! so now i have to make one of THOSE as well! i REALLY am enjoying this quilt; despite my 22 months of vast knowledge as i had NEVER sewn before i pretty much stick to the rules and follow the dotted lines. i am just now learning that you can be creative as well and let that inner beast out lol. its still on a chain, mind you, but i like the freedom of this pattern. and i have a tote full of scraps that need to be cut into strips. imagine that! teehee! thanks again everyone for the positive feedback. God's blessings to you and ill keep you posted on what the top looks like when it gets done :) have a beautiful Sunday!

GailG 01-27-2013 09:36 AM

Such a classy looking quilt. I have a real hard time working on black and white prints...just turns my stomach. Don't know why. But yours is awesome! Yes the placement of the black is great.

quiltingeileen 01-27-2013 09:49 AM

Very nice. The red really pops. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Grandma Peg 01-27-2013 10:16 AM

Very pretty! It's an interesting layout.

Wanabee Quiltin 01-27-2013 11:17 AM

It looks great so far. I would put all my blocks out first before sewing them together, then you can change a few around if need be.

ncsewer 01-27-2013 01:07 PM

Love it!! You did a wonderful job.
