Got the center done today. I didn't hit EVERY single one of the HST just right, but I did get most of them. It isn't ironed yet..but here it is so far. Now I HAVE to make myself vacuum & dust before I can work on it more. I am thinking that I'll add just a smidge of the brick ..very very narrow and then it needs a border to make it a little bigger. I may have to go shopping...that will be disappointing as I'll need to wait until I have the IRR centers here to shop for at the same time. We'll see....

I'm going to call this one Sunrise

Looks great Patti!!!!! I love all those buttery yellows for the background!!!!

tuesy 03-14-2009 11:52 AM

You're so much braver than I am. HST and I don't get along well... It's a beautiful top.. I agree with Sharon, it reminds me of something old... Great job!

sharon b 03-14-2009 11:53 AM

Very pretty!!!

sandpat 03-14-2009 12:00 PM

Thanks...yea, I like that kinda old look. I think I'll use a 100% cotton backing so it will pucker up nicely and I'll use this on the porch of the new house that we'd like to build sometime.

quilter1962 03-14-2009 12:08 PM

Oh Patti

I think I've just fallen in love - it's beautiful I absolutely adore this quilt. It does have a traditional look to it. Will look lovely with a narrow red border around it - to sort of frame it. Such a sham you don't have any more of the yellows to make the next border. Go on then off you pop to shop for some more fabric.
Enjoy your trip - I'll be thinking of you. :D

I just love that layout, sandpat - and the idea of the additional color to frame it. Are you thinking of a folded border or something a little wider? I can't wait to see it finished

SulaBug 03-14-2009 12:41 PM

It is turning out so pretty. I love the whole thing. Keep sharing, as you make more progress. We'll be waiting!! :D :D :D

Debbie1 03-14-2009 01:08 PM

Izy 03-14-2009 01:18 PM

I really like this Patti, a narrow border will look lovely :D :D :D

Very pretty, love the color combo!

sandpat 03-14-2009 03:17 PM

I played with a zillion things this afternoon...blah, yuck, nothing... :( I'm going to have to go shopping. Now the decision...wait until the IRR centers come or just go ahead.... :? ...I guess I'll just have to wait to see what the week brings...won't be anymore updates until then though... 8)

zyxquilts 03-14-2009 03:20 PM

It's lovely Patti! I think the narrow brick border will be just right. Good luck on your shopping trip :D:D

I love it, so comfy and summerly looking!! Wonderful job on it! :-)

littlehud 03-14-2009 09:32 PM

Very pretty. I love the look. The brick would be wonderful as a border.

ania755 03-14-2009 09:37 PM

Its very nice

Marcia 03-15-2009 05:04 AM

Oh!!! This turned out so beautiful. It was my favorite choice for layout and it came together great! I vote you just go ahead and go shopping just for this quilt and worry about the IRRs when they come.....don't keep us waiting on borders too long!!

sandpat 03-15-2009 05:17 AM

Marcia, I may just do that...I have a couple of choices. I really like a couple of the larger Rose patterns that are in the quilt already. I could use the larger one for the outer border (with the thin bead of the brick to separate them)..and then use a different rose pattern for the back...I could order them online..yes, I have found them (they are pricey though :( ) I would like to check out what my LQS has though..I might like something else even better....I guess it depends on the weather and if I get my MUST do chores done :(

Chele 03-15-2009 05:45 AM

Buttery goodness. It's really pretty!

Quilt4u 03-15-2009 07:08 AM

Looking Great.

JoanneS 03-16-2009 10:41 PM

My 2 cents - smidge of brick - a enough buttery yellow to get the size you want - final binding of brick. To me, that would keep the old fashioned look you have going.

QuiltingTurtle 03-17-2009 05:16 AM

sooooo pretty. Can't wait to see with the border.

Feathers 03-17-2009 05:28 AM

I have to agree with JoanneS's "2 cents worth"! Lovely quilt

Thats what I was thinking...the brick will really be just a pincord placed between the inner quilt and an outside border. Then I will bind it in the brick. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-gen014.gif

Shemjo 03-17-2009 07:20 AM

Sounds yummy!

Pat yourself on the back because you've done an amazing job with this.

SNUGQUILT 03-18-2009 07:39 AM

Beautiful! I have a hint for making 1/2 square triangles that I've discovered. There's a company called "Ta-Da Triangles". It is a pre-printed interfacing type material (perfect to use with fat quarters). The triangles can be done in many different sizes...you fuse to the wrong side of one fat quarter, then pin (a little) to the other fat quarter...follow the dotted lines while stitching -- VERY quick...it's a continuous line....cut on solid lines and you end up with PERFECT 1/2 square triangles...one sheet (at 2-1/4' ) makes 70 1/2 square triangles! :)
