Many years ago I made my Mom a thread catcher, to replace her plastic bag taped next to her sewing machine. The last time I visited her in AZ. She was using it as tissue catcher in her living room. The pin cushion was in the way of setting down your beverage cup.

So now she has a 'Tissue catcher/coaster'. I used a 4" tile, for the coaster (which took some thought, as to how I could make it work). Plus I shortened the straps, she had pinned up the straps on the old one.

Here is a picture on one that I use in my sewing room (one with the stripes on the inside) and her new one

I got one of these at a quilting retreat and it had a bear laying over the pin's part. We made several differnt kinds after that first one.. We would match up the pet with the fabric. they made cute gifts

The tile for the coaster is a good idea. It would have some weight to hold it on the table.
