Walking Foot Quilting

2 Attachment(s)
A while back I read a blog someone posted a link to, 31 Days of Walking Foot Quilting. I usually just crosshatch my quilts (mainly charity quilts), but I wanted to try something different. Not working on a quilt at the time, I went out and bought a "cheater" fabric to quilt. I'm very happy with the result.

Here's the link to the blog.

Great quilt and quilting! Great site with lots of neat quilting ideas for your walking foot. For those that want to move up from SITD with the walking foot, there are some super designs to try.

Beautiful job. Thanks for the link. Did you mark your first and what did you use for marking. Thanks.

How very cool! I am so happy for you. I know how hard it is to try new things and you did great!

Is that Flash Gordon??

Looks great to me. Easy to keep the stitches more consistant. No cheater cloths to me, it is fabric and fabric is for quilting.

Thank you all for your comments. I have a Singer 500 (hence the "King of the Rocketeers" signature) and they aren't known for being good to FMQ with, due to their horizontal bobbin. So, I'm experimenting with the walking foot. The blog shows quite a bit you can do with a walking foot.

GagaSmith - Yes, I did mark it. I used a Frixion pen. Next to washable school glue, it's one of my favorite notions. I calculated the size of the circle/peel/seed I wanted and ended up using a paper plate as a template - it was just the right size.

RedGarnett222 - I assume your "Flash Gordon" question is about my avatar, not the robot on the quilt. :) Actually, that's a photo from the old Republic serial, "King of the Rocketmen," which I reference in my signature. It's too bad the avatar picture is so small, you can't see that I very carefully replaced his rocket backpack with a Singer Rocketeer. Here's a link to a larger photo. http://www.tatethegreat.com/images/CommandoCody5.jpg

Yes, the blog shows many patterns that are fairly easy to do. Plus, so often all we need is to see just one example to spark our own imagination.

That looks great! I need to try that...thanks for the link!

I referred to the same blog when I needed to quilt a queen sized quilt. Yours came out great! I was really happy with mine, too. I love having curves in my quilting and being able to use my trusty walking foot! I marked mine with a Frixion pen also & love them!

I was in a class this week. The teacher called these printed panels and blocks "Convenience" instead of cheater. Thought it was a neat idea.

Ha! I just heard Dana Carvey in my head as the Church Lady saying, "You didn't have time to piece together a quilt, so you used a cheater. Well, isn't that convenient."

Actually, I like that name better too.

Looks to me like you have the foot walking where you want it to go. Very nice.

Great quilt and quilting!!!

Rose_P 04-12-2013 04:12 PM

Thank you for sharing this! It was just what I needed today for quilting a baby quilt that needs to get done fast because the baby (my grand nephew) was born yesterday, right on the due date! Seems I have been procrastinating, but it's ready to sandwich and quilt.

Annz 04-13-2013 01:53 PM

Great job.

Daleen 04-14-2013 08:50 AM

What stitch length and width are you using with the walking foot?
