Want suggestions on borders.

Here is the Deer quilt that I have been working on. I can't decide whether to make another border like the one on the outside and then frame it. Or add other borders of brown, leaves, green, rust and gold. And, then maybe some piano keys. What do you think? What would you add?

Your idea about the borders is what I would do. a piano key border would be good also. Beautiful so far.

What you've done so far is beautiful! I'm not sure I'd add the piano key border...maybe test it first? It might be a little "busy", what with the beautiful "X" type border already on...LOVE that!

Crqltr 08-20-2012 10:36 AM

It is beautiful, I think I would put one more plain border then binding. The border you have is so nice I would want to frame that . I also agree that piano keys would be to busy and distracting.

ArtsyOne 08-20-2012 10:42 AM

The x border you have is lovely, so I would add a narrow plain border before binding it off. I think a piano key border would be too busy against the x's.

I agree with ArtsyOne on adding a thin solid border and then use a contrasting binding! Love your X border!

I agree with the above except if you want more size then a brown border the same size as is on there followed by the orange and/or blue.

I think I would do another brown border the same width as the one there. Then I would audition maybe the leaves as another border around it & then another brown border & bind it in brown.

I agree I would hate to distract from the beautiful border that you have allready.

I agree with everyone. Use a solid color. How about the burgundy in the leaves and bind it with light tan or the green or gold. Very pretty.

quilter2theend 08-20-2012 01:42 PM

I agree that just another solid color border would be best. Don't overthink it!

sometimes, keep it simple is best. beautiful quilt

I agree that piano keys would be very busy with what you already have. Plain border(s) in one of your colors. Good job!

Exactly what I thought on first viewing this quilt. Lucky person who gets it.

Treasureit 08-21-2012 06:00 AM

I am in agreement with the others...plain solid color border. It would be too busy if you add anything similar.

Sewfine 08-21-2012 06:09 AM

Beautiful quilt. I would put one or two more plain border on.

DebbE 08-21-2012 06:11 AM

With the "X" border I'd go for very simple or it might overwhelm the quilt. I'd use the same mottled brown in the first border, but do a simple scalloped border, so it highlights the pieced border and softens the edge, and bind with the same fabric. LOVE your quilt!!

Tartan 08-21-2012 06:21 AM

If it needs to be bigger than a dark brown border and then the binding. The pieced border is beautiful and adding any other pieced border will detract from it.

heather1949 08-21-2012 06:24 AM

That looks so beautiful.

lfstamper 08-21-2012 06:27 AM

I love the outer border you have on it. I would interview different fabrics for another border to see what you like. Great job so far.

patsynel 08-21-2012 06:54 AM

The border that you have is great, I would go with a brown

Gail B 08-22-2012 05:17 AM

I agree with everyone about using a solid color border. Your x border is beautiful.. Is there a pattern for it?

Blinkokr 08-22-2012 05:29 AM

Just wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing. I agree with the rest.
Have a Blessed day
Ellen
