Warm Wishes WIP

Say that three times fast :) I was thinking of sea/beach theme in squares (recipient lives in Hawaii), but how do I quilt the rail fence blocks? Any/all suggestions welcome.

I think the meander that looks like water would be awesome on this quilt. It is one of my favourite patterns for FMQ because it is easy but looks great. Great Warm Wishes by the way and perfect for Hawaii.

mighty 01-15-2013 07:46 AM

I agree with Tartan that would really look good.

grammy Dwynn 01-15-2013 07:46 AM

Love it! Warm Wishes is so fast and easy. ;)

The easiest quilting that comes to mind, is a simple 'X' through the blocks. You could do it in only the 'rails' or focal fabric or though them all.

ruthrings 01-15-2013 07:47 AM

I was going to say "waves" which is probably the same thing as "meaner that looks like water."

Beautiful quilt top!

fxsts93kf 01-15-2013 08:58 AM

Really pretty!

Anyone got a picture of this water meander? Not really sure what it looks like.

This is just a quick sketch with my sharpie to give you the idea of my water meander. It kind of looks the same as wood grain meander. There are probably better examples on YouTube?

Jingle 01-15-2013 10:52 AM

Beautiful, it will be perfect for her. I always do a meandering. I love the look and love doing it.

busy fingers 01-15-2013 11:37 AM

It looks very "tropical". Well done.

Tweety2911 01-15-2013 12:15 PM

Very pretty. Any overall quilting will look nice on your quilts. Waves by Tartan would look lovely as well!

redquilter 01-15-2013 01:09 PM

I agree that something wavy would look great. It's a striking quilt.

erstan947 01-15-2013 01:24 PM

Beautiful Quilt. I think Tartin has a good idea!

TerryQuilter 01-15-2013 02:54 PM

How about fish???

alikat110 01-15-2013 07:04 PM

Excellent quilt. Love the water quilting ideas!

catladyquilts 01-16-2013 03:43 AM

I agree with Tartan as far as the quilting, this pattern is one of my favorites.

gabeway 01-16-2013 05:24 AM

Great job and I go with the waves pattern.

GemState 01-16-2013 06:14 AM

I just finished quilting my Warm Wishes quilt on my "short arm":) machine yesterday. I did a grid which made an X in the rail fence blocks and then did a 'design' in the squares. It turned out REALLY well and I love it!!

solstice3 01-17-2013 06:06 AM

How about waves?

luciab 01-17-2013 07:04 AM

Lovely quilt. I like Tartan's idea.

WMUTeach 01-17-2013 07:05 AM

I just pulled this pattern from my pile of "I'd like to do this some day" patterns. What a treat to see it in lovely brilliant fabrics. It has moved up the list and I hope to give it a go in the next few weeks.

Lovely work. My pattern includes the "x" suggestion for quilting but I like the other choices already mentioned too.

Dix 01-17-2013 08:00 AM

I am a hand quilter most of the time. I cross hatched the blocks and did a quarter inch at every seam. This is one of my favorite patterns!

milikaa1 01-17-2013 10:34 AM

When I make the Warm Wishes quilt, I straight stitch thru the the "stripe" squares making X's.

IBQUILTIN 01-17-2013 02:11 PM

I like both the water and the waves. Have fun with it

nstitches4u 01-17-2013 02:53 PM

Great Warm Warm Wishes quilt. Love the colors.

MimiBug123 01-17-2013 05:01 PM

I think the all over meander would be pretty. I love the quilt!

bibi 01-17-2013 05:40 PM

Since my quilting is limited to straight lines, basically stitch in the ditch, I cannot advice you. However, I want tell you, you created a beautiful quilt. Very lovely indeed.

kateyb 01-29-2013 05:28 AM

Love your focus fabric and color choices. Very bright and coloful quilt. I usually just do a simple SITD on warm wishes.

blueangel 01-29-2013 09:45 AM

Very pretty.

mpeters1200 02-02-2013 11:44 AM

I don't do a lot of FMQ. What I do for all my WWs is stich in the ditch around all the blocks and then create an X through the rail fence blocks. It ends up making the focus fabric in your WWs look like a square in a square instead. It's a nice secondary design. I like the water/wood grain meander, but I have no idea how I would do that.
