Katrine 03-18-2009 09:25 AM

oh Izy you're teasing again ... they are beauts - I especially like the one shown nearest to the plastic boxes. What are you going to do with them? I have plastic boxes full of teeny bits, and I wish I was as creative as you are!

quiltsRfun 03-18-2009 09:25 AM

Oh WOW! That's amazing. What a beautiful quilt this will make.

Shemjo 03-18-2009 09:25 AM

Beautiful, and you have so much left over! That is going to be one terrific quilt.
What is the name of the star patch? I have seen it, but memory lapse has taken over.

RedGarnet222 03-18-2009 09:26 AM

Well for goodness sake! I didn't expect that! I love love love those blocks! So cheerful. My favorite is the potted tulip. That is one cute pattern.

Izy 03-18-2009 09:34 AM

I have LOTS more of these scraps, and look closely girls as you will probably see some of the fabrics you all so kindly sent over in there :D b

The last couple of days I have been trying to use up all the teeny bits, using foundation piecing as some of the blocks will only be 3" finished ranging up to 12", it is very busy though so I am trying to introduce some picture blocks with neutral backgrounds and think I might add a neutral sashing to each block to separate them and give your eyes a rest lol!!

sandpat 03-18-2009 09:35 AM

OH YOU GO GIRL!!!!!! I love it, leave it to you to be amazing with teensy tiny scraps! Ok, now what is next??

a4Ohio 03-18-2009 09:36 AM

NOT FAIR!!!! So much talent in just one women. Please keep us updated with pictures of this quilt... it is going to be great!

Izy 03-18-2009 09:37 AM

Patti, it does take alot of time, as the mariners 16 point compass is only 6" finished, and took me about 4/5 hours to make  So I just keep choosing another block and add it to the pile lol!! I do have other projects I need to get on with, so it might drag on for the summer this one

sewsewquilter 03-18-2009 09:53 AM

You are a GENIUS! :D :D :D

beachlady 03-18-2009 09:56 AM

Izy 03-18-2009 09:58 AM

The blocks are all perfectly square as I use a template, but I think my camera distorts the image as everything looks curved lol!!

Thanks everyone for your admiration and encouragement...I really appreciate it :-D :-D :-D

Kyiav10 03-18-2009 10:03 AM

Oh, Izy those are so pretty!!! You are a huge inspiration!

Kyia

Izy 03-18-2009 10:06 AM

Kyia, although most of the time it frustrates the life out of me not having fabric available as it is in the USA, it does make you resourceful and makes you really appreciate every little scrap of fabric, I only throw away the slivers that I know I couldn't get two very scant seams and have nothing left to show on the front...kid you not I do try lol!!

littlehud 03-18-2009 10:38 AM

Wow, I didn't see that in all those little pieces. You are an artist with vision.

quiltsRfun 03-18-2009 10:40 AM

it might drag on for the summer
But it looks like you're having lots of fun.

Debbie1 03-18-2009 10:45 AM

Your quilt will be stunning! I love the bright colors!

sewhappy57 03-18-2009 11:11 AM

More on the way too!

mgshaw 03-18-2009 11:14 AM

OMG Izy!!!! Those are fantastic!!!!!! For scaps, the colors are so amazingly coordinated!!!!! It is going to be a gorgeous quilt!!!! :D

Chele 03-18-2009 11:16 AM

Izy, you play with scraps so nicely! They're all beautiful! Keep going!

Rhonda 03-18-2009 11:32 AM

As a miniaturist I love what you have done! My first thought was finally someone else who does something like what I do! Lots of good ideas I want to try. I love the tulip. I make bookmarks and I might try to fit one into a bookmark.

Where did you get the directions for a 6" mariner's compass? Always wanted to make one but I don't like paper piecing so I haven't tried. I do have a "Block" I make that allows for something similar just not as intricately disected into as many points. It would make a beautiful hot pad! I make a lot! of hot pads. So I am always translating what I see into that format. If I have to try paper piecing I might be tempted for this block.

I know what you mean about throwing away only slivers. I do that too. A lady saved scraps for me from a quilt she made and they were 1/2"-3/4" wide. I made her a checkbook cover and a coin purse by strip piecing them and cutting out blocks from the joined strips just to prove I could. It was fun to challenge myself like that. I use a scant 1/8"- scant 1/4" seam allowance on something like that.

k3n 03-18-2009 11:37 AM

Izy, those are fantabulous!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Gorgeous! How can you be so precise so tiny? I think when precision was being allocated, you got my share!

Izy 03-18-2009 11:39 AM

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement, the mini's are not perfect by any means, and I am not being too hard on myself with this quilt, what will be will be is what I am thinking

Rhonda, I love your work, and your website is amazing, you inspire me so much, I intend really soon to get on and hand piece a miniature..something, not sure what yet lol!!. I will find out where I got the pattern from and let you know :D

K are you due a trip to Specsavers....they are FAR from perfect, BUT I am happy with them lol, some of the blocks I just adlib, and stitched the strips as they were 'wonky', no pattern just got on with it as long as the colours looked right next to each other thats all I have given any thought to really, if a pattern catches my eye, then I try and make it, I don't like the bird house, that ones too 'boring' so will find another one tee hee!!

Foundation piecing is definitely the way for precision, although it takes abit of getting used to, and I have been doing my fair share of rippppppppppppppping and cusssssssssssssssssing    :D

I think I was just blown away by the colours and range of patterns but I didn't see any wonkies! But then I think we're always most critical of our own work! I've never done foundation piecing - on the list to try one day.... :D

Have checked I'm wearing my specs not Hans (!) and looked again with nose pressed to screen - still pretty darn perfect to me!

Did I tell you lately that I love you????????????????

mamatobugboo 03-18-2009 11:54 AM

Izy these are great! It's hard to get a feel for how small they really are - how about a picture of a few blocks with your hand next to them?! :D

Izy 03-18-2009 11:56 AM

Errmmm, might choose something else like a rotary cutter, been working in the garden for the last few weeks and it shows lol!! Will see what I can do for you Mama!!

quilter1962 03-18-2009 11:57 AM

OH MY Izy

They are Ab Fab - I spy some of my fabrics in there. Amazing how you've managed to coordinate everything. I love the LC block - did you say it was on quilterscache. I am currently making a quilt for my MIL using 12" different blocks - I'll have to visit the site.

Thanks again for sharing your one talented girl
