William Morris quilt ready to quilt

4 Attachment(s)
My Wm Morris "Friends" quilt is ready for quilting. I would like some suggestions for quilting please. I posted it although the pictures are awful. As you can see, it is not made entirely from Wm Morris fabrics. I didn't have enough and used some from my stash. I would be more pleased if I had hand appliqued it. Thanks for looking.

My goodness--what a beautiful quilt! I'm no help on the quilting (sorry).

ptquilts 05-07-2013 01:54 PM

wow, that is so beautiful!! I would suggest hand quilting to let the applique shine!

StephT 05-07-2013 01:55 PM

WOW..I would like to see a double batting making all the motifs POP..but then I am just a beginner so I really don't know anything. I can't wait to see this when it is finished.

That is a beautiful quilt and a LOT of applique. How long did it take to make it?

djmat 05-07-2013 09:51 PM

Wonderful quilt with lovely colors. Newbie to QTQ so I'm no help in that regard. You'll do great which ever way you quilt it. Please remember to post when you finish.

One awesome quilt!

mighty 05-08-2013 06:24 AM

Really beautiful!!!!!!

lauriequilts 05-08-2013 06:58 AM

Quilt is beautiful. I would use Hobbs polydown and stipple little stipples all around the appliques.

grammysharon 05-08-2013 07:11 AM

What a gorgeous quilt!!! You did beautiful work on the applique!!! Can hardly wait to see finished product!!!!!!

sniktasemaj 05-08-2013 08:14 AM

Gorgeous quilt, you did a great job!! No help with the quilting though

Cindy60545 05-09-2013 02:42 AM

Beautiful quilt! My suggestion is send it to Charisma for quilting. She's amazing with quilts like this.

twinkie 05-09-2013 02:49 AM

That is a beautiful quilt.

If the applique's are hand turned, then hq is my suggestion. So that it stays in the same quilting family. If they are machine applique , then LA quilting is my suggestion. I wouldn't either way, put too much detail in the quilting for it to take away from the applique. Either way it will be stunning. Heck, it's stunning now!

It is machine appliqued. Do you suggest just quilting around the designs and maybe fill the background with stippling?

Geri B 05-09-2013 04:27 AM

If that appliqué work is anchored with machine stitching on the edges I would do some various stippling in backgrounds I.,e., micro stippling, echo, and McTavishing some parts. But, also with a matching thread "lock"down some of the larger appliqué pieces so the don't "bubble" up when finished by say just a gentle outline between two parts of whatever it is---like outline bird wings. If those app-pieces are merely fused down I would want to straight stitch on the very edges before quilting it. In those sashings I would do some sort of simple design like a leafy vine or swirls just so they too lie flatter and don't pucker up. However you do it it will be lovely.

Echo quilting so as to not detract from the beautiful design and fabric. Love your quilt.

klgls 05-09-2013 05:08 AM

Holy moley - that is one awesome quilt.

solstice3 05-09-2013 05:13 AM

I would quilt around all the motifs

Daisy Dew 05-09-2013 06:16 AM

Goodness! What a beauty - Hand quilt 1st choice a really good LA 2nd. Can't wait to see this finished.

Beehiveof9 05-09-2013 06:46 AM

I think some echo quilting would be lovely. Your quilt is stunning!

#1piecemaker 05-09-2013 06:48 AM

Very pretty!! You did a great job!

BuzzinBumble 05-09-2013 06:51 AM

Whatever you do to quilt it, it will need to really play off your awesome appliqué work! I have a Morris appliqué book and would love to try this someday. I can only dream that it will turn out as beautifully as yours has!

WisWis 05-09-2013 06:53 AM

Absolutely beautiful!

MartiMorga 05-09-2013 06:56 AM

I love your quilt, and although I am not as experienced as the others about quilting, I can invision the echoing or stippling around the appliques so they will pop. Oh it is beautiful -

cpcarolyn 05-09-2013 07:11 AM

No suggstions on quilting but great quilt.

Joy Higdon 05-09-2013 07:19 AM

I know it would look better to have a LAQ do it, there are some awesome quilters on this board. Charisma has worked her magic on a couple of mine. But, due to finances, I will have to muddle through. I would just have to pack it away if I didn't try my hand at it. Wish me luck.

janiesews 05-09-2013 07:50 AM

Wow!! What a beautiful quilt-maybe your quilter will have suggestions - I have none for the quilting.

IBQUILTIN 05-09-2013 08:02 AM

Your quilt is stunning. I think I would look at a few books or pics online before deciding on quilting. It is sew gorgeous, you really need to give it some thought.

quilterpurpledog 05-09-2013 09:20 AM

Your quilt is absolutely stunning. It would lend itself to echo quilting around all those wonderful flowers. It would make the flowers pop out. That is a traditional application.

tessagin 05-09-2013 09:23 AM

I can't give you any tips on the quilting but anxious to see it when you're finished.
