Working my disappearing 9 Patch!

1 Attachment(s)
I was nervous to start this, 1. Because my son requested all bright colors, and 2. A friend said she had done one and got bored with it. Well, I started this 24 hours ago, and I just finished laying my cut blocks out and am ready to start sewing them into rows or large blocks.

I'm excited too. My son came in and saw it and says he loves it, it's exactly what he wanted. He is turning 21 this year and he got my first quilt I ever made. A scrappy log cabin. He was 3.

I think it's been easy due to my already having tons of 5 inch charms I had collected the past 10 years. So, I just started making the nine patches, zip, zip, zip. It will be a full size when it's done with borders and all. Thanks for looking. I'm so excited!

I love your bright quilt and can see why a 21 year old would love it too. I have made a few D9P quilts and found them lots of fun to do. It is amazing how the placement of squares changes the design. Thanks for sharing.

How very fun! You are ahead of the game when they like it before it is even finished piecing the top! That is one lucky boy.

I have not been a huge fan of D9P but this one has changed my mind, I love it too. The colors are fabulous and I have a ton of 5" squares also. You did a great job and I guess I need to make one too. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad to hear that. My friend had told me she got bored doing hers so I was worried. But, maybe she had to cut all of her charms, I didn't. Only my dark batik that was the center of my 9 patch. I'd been saving charms for a long time for a Buckeye Beauty... but I had plenty. So I repurposed enough for this. Although, now I decided to make it bigger, and ordered a charm pack today.

I think the secret to it being so fast and liking it is having the charms all cut long in advance. LOL Thank you for your lovely compliment.

Tweety2911 09-19-2012 06:29 PM

Wonerful, scrappy D9P!

calicojoan 09-20-2012 03:12 AM

WOW, I never thought about using my charms for a D9P. I have tons of them sitting, cause I really don't know what to do with them. I am excited about finding a use for them now.

Cindy60545 09-20-2012 03:17 AM

Thanks for sharing. I've spent the last few weeks organizing my scraps and now have a huge stack of 5" squares. Seeing your DP9 scrappy is inspiring and encouraging after all that cutting.

It is a beautiful and very colorful D9P. How nice that he wanted you to make it for him. I bet you are not nervous now that you have come so far creating the D9P - I see more of this design in your future.
