I recently made these 2 sets of mug rugs for gifts. The Mary Engelbreit print is for future gifting. I just did a simple outline stitching around the cute objects on both sets. The other set is an adorable panel piece of fabric I picked up with Bible Verses on it. The separate sections were perfect for mug rugs! My cousin was the recipient, she is a fabulous quilter but hadn't seen or heard about mug rugs before. As I was in a huge rush to make these I opted for no bias binding. I decided I like the bias binding finish the best as I think it really makes them 'pop' with a contrasting bias edge.

Sets turned out really nice. Your right though the binding just puts a nice finish to the rug.

"Snap out of it" would be perfect under my coffee cup in the morning ;-)
