So here's the quilt top I've been working on. I wanted to do vertical sashing (as in the pic) with a border of red, and then blue. However the red is coming out of the backing fabric and I just don't think I can spare anymore for more borders. I need top and bottom on this one, so my question is, does the blue border look too out of place with the red sashing?

Also...lol I am playing around with the idea of hand quilting this. This scares me because 1. I have NEVER hand quilted ANYTHING and 2. I have no idea what pattern to do if I decide to hand quilt it...I'm just not sure if I should quilt it or do my usual and just tie it.

Any thoughts?

the blue looks fine!! Have you ever thought of machine quilting? Even on a small machine it's quicker than hand stitching, my hands are too old for hand stitching.

Yeah I've tried machine quilting and I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I have spoiled many a quilt top trying to quilt it...

If you want to try hand quilting, just do something simple for your first one. Do an outline (1/4" in from seam) as this is easy to do. Your quilt top is beautiful! I am 70 and still hand quilt.

Since the blue is the same size as the red, I think it looks great. It's a beautiful quilt.

Like the sashing and borders just the way they are. I don't have the patience to hand quilt so I'd do a stitch in the ditch. Have fun with whatever you decide

I really like the blue borders. I like to hand quilt but absolutely limit myself to small projects. I get impatient to be done so on a quilt this size, I would definitely machine quilt. Have you ever done SID with your walking foot?

I really like the blue. It sets off the blue in the piecing beautifully.
