A friend asked me to help her assemble a quilt top as a surprise to be presented to her husband at a dinner in his honor as outgoing president of the Masonic Lodge. She and her sister hand embroidered names and positions held by the officers under him (forgive me if I don't get the terminology correct as I have never been involved with the Masons before). They also included some members who were veterans and what rank they held. I assembled the blocks and used some beautiful eagle panels she had to applique to the top and bottom borders. It was an honor to do this and I think it turned out well. They invited me to attend the dinner which I did and was so impressed with the formality and reverence of the ceremony.

How special! My DH is a Mason-his lodge where we use to live was very "wife-friendly" and I was lucky to be included in many of the functions they held, as well as an annual "open house" in the lodge. Unlike many other service organizations, they do many charitable donations etc, all money raised within the lodge members and not out in public, and they don't want any public recognition for their work. What a special gift for your friend's husband as out-going Worshipful Master of his lodge.

The Masons do a lot of good, especialy for children. Often parents are not able to pay for the treatments, here they jump in and help out.

They help in many different ways. It's amazing.

Lovely, I would love to see a better photo of this quilt, my son in law is a Mason and what a wonderful gift I cold give him by doing one such inspiration.
