Dotty’s dad was in the Navy during WW2. Now he is in a V.A. Hospital, he has Alzheimer’s Disease and is blind. Dotty wanted to repair a wool blanket that her Dad brought home from the war. It says US Army and is dated 1940. She has saved it all these years. It has a huge hole right in the middle of the blanket, and Dotty wanted to repair it and bring it to her Dad at the V.A. Hospital. She bought badges, designating some of the places that her Dad had served in the Navy. She couldn’t get them all, but she got what she could find. The hospital wouldn’t let her bring the blanket, because it is wool and would not get the special washing care that wool requires. So Dotty decided to make a wall hanging and she asked me to help. The first cut into the blanket was really hard. I taught Dotty to use my sewing machine – just a regular straight stitch – and she proceeded to sew all of the patches on – slowly and lovingly. It is a masterpiece! Dotty’s Dad won’t be able to see it, but he can feel it – and, hopefully, he will feel the love that his daughter sewed into every stitch.

I am sure that her Dad will find comfort from it, as he is able to feel his blanket. Nice job ladies.
