Default Quilting Ideas for this mini

Hi! I am participating in a Name Game swap on Flickr. I am in the process of making this little raw edge applique mini. My partner's name will be hand quilted into the stars, like a constellation.
I need ideas for what to do with the rest of the quilting!! I have a big empty space in the bottom left corner. I don't want to add anything that will look like it doesn't belong. Maybe the empty space is not as bad as it seems to me!
I'm just asking for constructive comments and ideas. I am still learning FMQ designs, and I am at a beginner level.

This is cute! How about a moon and maybe some swirly looking design that looks like wind. Be sure to post the finished piece!

Some nice swirly clouds would work. Or you could go with a very simple straight line grid, maybe with offset lines to make it a bit more interesting. Whatever you do, I would match the thread to your background gray so as to keep it subtle and put the immediate visual impact on the applique. The quilting will just add texture and another layer of interest.

I love the idea, and can hardly wait to see what you end up doing.

Put something that will send your eyes back to the applique

What about using a tone on tone color of thread and making a city skyline in the background or a mountain view to give an appearance of this was a picture with the owl and tree up close in the frame when the picture was taken??

I agree. You need something there to look like it is blocking out the rest of the night sky...I thought maybe a shadowy FMQ tree?

What about tone on tone tree branches? I am intrigued. Please show us when you are done. It looks great so far:-)
