Default Radiant Sunshine and Shadow Nine Patch

I started this quilt the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I'd been thinking about making it for my son for Christmas since April but procrastinated for a long time. We went to see my son and his family on December 9th, so I really put myself on a tight deadline, but I gotter done. This is the first quilt I've made from this pattern, it was very simple to make and the top goes together like a dream because the only seams you have to match are for the rows of blocks and those in the nine patch blocks.
The pattern is from the book titled Radiant Sunshine and Shadow by Helen Frost and Catherine Skow. It's a really good concept for making a simple quilt, with as few a 3 fabrics, that has an interesting look to it.
I'm happy with the way it turned out and my son loves it!

What a lovely quilt!

It looks like the pattern is the same concept as the Blooming Nine Patch ... would I be correct?
Thanks!
