What a sweet thing for you to do. I lost my mother to complications of Alzheimer's and it is a horrible for the patient and the caregivers. I'm sure your friend loves her quilt and thinks of you and how wonderful it is to have someone to care for you for a change. I hope she enjoys it for many years.

The first picture is of the two mirror image blocks (1 & 2). As you can see, the light colors strips on one side of the block are narrower than the dark colored ones on the other side. My blocks were 8 inches if I remember correctly.
The second picture is of the way the blocks are laid out (with many rotated) to make the wavy diamond pattern.
Hope this helps.

So many families are affected by this. We must pray they find a cure soon.

The quilt you made for your friend Rita is just wonderful. I especially love the picture of her with it and how happy she was to receive it. The quilting design suits it to a tee. Great story, great quilt and you are a great friend.
