Just finished the Christmas gifts that my daughter is giving to her two college roommates this year. This is actually a set of three quilts, but the third one for my daughter is not yet finished. In the meantime, I thought I would post photos of these.

All of the girls are student athletes, so the quilts were done in their college colors of green and gold. In addition, there is a cat paw quilted in each corner - the mascot's symbol. I had wanted to machine quilt these, but I have just started FMQ and I found that I was not up to the task. So I hand quilted the paws. I just learned how to hand quilt as well, and while not great at it, I was happy with the way that it turned out. Frankly, it is VERY difficult to see the paws, even in person. But we all know they're there, so it kind of like our little secret.

And a big thank you to everyone on here who encouraged me to go ahead and mix the machine and hand quilting in the same piece. That's what you guys are best at - supporting fellow quilters.

The girls are going to love these! It will be meaningful for them to have their college colors used. I made a lap quilt for one of my daughters while she was in college using her college colors of cream and burgundy. She still uses it to this day in her living room! Nice work and you are a nice Mom:)
