Default Scrappy Trip Around the World

Finally finished my first Bonnie Hunter quilt, Scrappy Trip Around the World. I have to say, I learned a lot about color, contrast, and value with this quilt. I found out it's not enough to like your fabrics. If there's no contrast or value, they have no way to differentiate themselves to make them special. I learned after the first 5 blocks (you can probably tell which ones they are). After it's said and done, I do really, really like this top, and can't wait to get it quilted. Trying to decide if I'm going to put borders on or not. Most that I see do not have them, but I think adding the border color will help tie everything in. This has been my most favorite, and fun block to piece to date! Try it, if you haven't already. You'll be hooked.

I like it. IMHO, borders would be nice.

I think your quilt is beautiful. I will be anxious to see it quilted. I appreciate your comments on what you felt were your learning experiences as you proceeded with your blocks. I think that being able to analyze the process as you go along is so important to growth in quilting. And, I am glad, that you incorporated all of the squares in your quilt rather than taking them out. If you add the border it will have a more traditional look; if you leave it off your quilt will have a more modern look. Either would be nice.

Your quilt turned out great. I'm working on a Scrappy Trips right now and am having a hard time breaking out of the dark/light/dark/light fabric placement. I don't think my quilt will be nearly as gorgeous as yours. But, as you say, a learning experience - and a great way to get a lot of fabric out of my stash.

Be sure to show us the finished quilt. I'll be anxious to see if it ends up with borders or no borders.

I really like it, and I agree that a border would enhance it.
