I'll go first! I just finished this little quilt (measures about 40" by 40") from the "ugly blocks" left over from a queen size sampler that I'm doing.

I thought it would be hideous and that I would hate it, but I decided to make the sashing blue instead of black, and that made such a difference. It's still...unusual....but I like it. It's made, front and back, entirely from scraps (even the pieced binding), except for the center panel of the backing, which is home dec yardage someone gave me that I wasn't crazy about.

As I said, I like this quilt. I have a soft spot in my heart for utility quilts because that is the kind of quilt I grew up with (yes, even the polyester doubleknit ones). I am thinking of giving it to charity, but be honest - is it too ugly to give to charity? It would probably go to the local CASA to be given to a child in foster care.

Also - I want to see your ugly quilts, or your scrap and utility quilts! The ones you make to be used and abused!

I think it would be a rather cheery picnic quilt!

It has a nice old-fashioned look to it.

It certainly looks "good enough to use"

Oh, yeah, 2nd pic is the back. Quilted in sections, and the backing for the top and bottom sections are made from my old jeans.

Here's my ugly utility quilt for my own use. The back is from an old bed sheet and old sun faded curtains. The blocks are an accumulation of left over scraps from over 40 years of making clothes for my kids and myself. Sorry, I'm not a photographer!

Newby - that's exactly the kind I like. So many fabrics, and each one has a story.

Is it a log cabin pattern?
