Our preacher is retiring and he and his wife are moving away, so some of us made them this quilt. A signature quilt seemed the only fitting gift as his wife quilts herself, and made a similar (but larger) quilt when another member was leaving.

Several of the ladies that helped had not quilted before, and I think we may have hooked one of them :)

Got the pattern out of an old Quiltmaker magazine, from the mid-nineties.

It measures about 28" by 28"

We wanted to do something in red/white/blue because they just received their citizenship this year (are originally from South Africa) and it meant a lot to them. But it seemed better to keep the colors muted and not blaringly patriotic. I was really happy with the way it turned out, since the original pattern called for an entirely different color scheme, and some of the ladies were looking at me, clearly thinking "if you say so" when I suggested the change. I think they just couldn't visualize it as anything but the colors shown.
