Silk crazy quilt - ready for layering!
I posted some initial questions about this earlier ( silk-crazy-quilt-t269703.html ).
Now it is put together with a 4-inch border and ready to be layered, and you can see it just barely covers a double bed.
I have 2 squares left over for pillows, about 18 inches square.
My initial thought was for a wool batting and muslin for the backer since silk can be cold.
I have several questions to post later.
For the time-being here are photos of the whole thing (mostly) and a few individual squares.
I hope you enjoy looking!

I forgot to mention that someone here suggested lace - more than half of these have a single strip of various laces I had on hand. My favorite is a silk rick-rack with a little "extra" shown in a couple of these images. I have a couple yards left but the others got used completely.

...and all your beautiful hand embroidery embellishment just adds to the elegance of the silks....yes muslin on the back would be perfect......
did you you have to stabilize the silks as they do ravel easily? How long had you been collecting...I know someone who is now collecting for one........

The silk came through my job as samples from fabric makers and designers.
I started saving them in 2004 or 2005 and decided in 2015 to start piecing - which went pretty quickly.
To be honest, I saved them without any real goal in mind because I had no idea how much I would have.
I left the job in 2011 so that was the end of any more! It's amazing how far it went actually - some of the pieces were less than a fat quarter.
I finished the embroidery just after Christmas and put it together over the weekend.
I did not stabilize the fabric but I did sew it to muslin so only the outside edges frayed badly. On a few I had to piece some very small scraps to really bad edges . . . Originally the squares were 10.5 inches but I had to trim off quite a bit and navigate my embroidery in the process. 9.75 is what they ended up being.
How is your friend collecting them? I was extremely lucky that all mine were free . . . one of the perks of corresponding with the companies and clients.
