A friend gave me this dress with panels of embroidered silk and gold thread and asked me to make a pillow so she could enjoy it. It was worn by her grandmother's friend who entered a concentration camp during WWII. They were allowed only the clothes on their back and what they could carry in with them. It was so scarry cutting into such special, beautiful fabric. The back has a secret pocket and the little black bow is some of the leftover silk I just had to make use of. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, given I had no idea what i was doing! lol

Yes, his name is Cornelius. Shooter is white. He's next to get his picture on the board :)

OMG, that is beautiful! I hope something can be made out of the remaining embroidery as well. You did a fantastic job preserving a bit of your friends family history.

I too would have been terrified cutting into such a special garment.

You did a wonderful job. I know those first moments of panic when you try something new.
(I wonder why she didn't just frame the dress.)

Her house is like a museum already. She has better pieces displaying the silk and embroidery of that time framed beautifully already. Can you believe it! This piece was one that could be cut up.
