You mean all the adjusting is why you don't like it as much? You may need to push the tension in (not the end knob the next part that will push in) and then tighten the outer knob a turn. Then adjust to suit yourself. It won't change the tension but it will hold it in place a little better. I don't know how to explain that one any better.

I know exactly what you mean. The screw that holds the whole assembly into the machine.
Yes, I did think if this and adjusted it to be in the same position as the other one. Maybe it needs to be a little different

Now, how do I get rid of the two double-up posts I did yesterday (I don't know how this happened!). It was the one with all the photos.

The newer machine is noisier, the stitching is always a little 'loose'. Maybe I need to use it for a while. Even though I don't know what to do with it, it'd be nice to find out why it's not as good as the other. The first one was made in 1960, incidentally. The newer one in 1956. They do appear identical, but perhaps Singer made small but significant design changes.

Um. yeah you can just turn it but some times you have to bypass the little holes/peg. Push the thing with the little holes in then turn the knob at the end then release the little thing with the little holes so it goes into the peg.
As far as noise. Maybe your other one was well used or something. Or it could be how it was lubed. There still could be some dried up oil - it's the dried up gummy oil you don't see that you have to worry about.

Ah, it seems I didn't know exactly what you meant. Yes, I did know about the little peg. It's acceptable at the moment, so I'll have another look soon. It's Sunday night now in Melbourne so I'm out of time.
Also went out today and bought a 201 at an antique shop. Yes I do have a problem. Couldn't believe this one (or resist it) it is a 1957, made in Australia, in its original case and in restored condition. How much? Well, at $25 wouldn't you buy it? After a good lubrication (it was almost completely seized) it is sewing amazingly nice stitches. Time to make the little woman's next dress (from 1965 pattern) :-)
Thanks for your support this weekend Miriam.

I am so impressed! I have some Singers that need some Love..not sure I have the courage to take them apart like this. I know I don't have the knowledge of the electrical..thought about taking a basic electrical course somewhere so I can learn.

Honestly I wasn't copying Diana, but when I saw this 320k I had to grab it! It didn't come with the unique darning/embroidery plate though, so I might have to improvise but for $96 + postage I'm not complaining.
