Anyone who knows me knows I cannot walk past a handmade quilt at a yard sale or thrift shop without wanting to "save" it. I even have some of the ugliest patches known to man that I rescued from on of the rental houses my husband manages. They were abandoned there and even if they are made from some of the most horrible materials....the work is fantastic and I couldnt see just throwing them away.

Last week my daughter was helping clean out one of these houses that was left in awful condition. It was dirty and full of trash..but the first picture is what she found under all the mess in the bedroom. She was so proud to bring it home to me. It is hand pieced and quilted and truly a shame to be left behind. I tried to contact the couple that left if but since they were months behind on rent they are avoiding me.

The second pictures is one of the awful ones I HAD to rescue. I can see myself in the position of having no money to quilt but NEEDING to. I would be like this quilter and use whatever I got my hands on!

My DH thinks I am a sentimental sap but I just I just cant let these be forgotten. Someone worked hard to make them.

one DD found for me

The first is nice but the second is fabulous! So unique! I guess I can't help myself, I love things that are totally eclectic. Some have said that coming into my home is like being in a "Museum of the Odd and Unusual." If I had quilt #2 it would be prominently displayed.

Sad that the first one was left , there was a lot of work in it . The second one is one that you could use and enjoy and never worry about ruing a "show piece"
