My Mom (an alternation lady her whole life) appliqued and hand quilted these blocks when her first great grandchild was born. Mom died 6 years ago and never finished the quilt. I finally was emotionally ready 3 months ago to pick up these precious blocks, put them together, piece the border, and finish hand quilting it. I wanted the quilt to be special so on each corner block is machine embroidered the name of my Mom, me, my daughter and my granddaughter. That baby is now 8 and this quilt was her birthday gift last Saturday.
Mom, I hope I made you proud.

Beautiful quilt and story to go with it. I really like the way you set it together and the names added--special!

Being part of a long lived line of quilters myself, this story brought tears to my eyes! Both of my grandmother's quilted, and my maternal great grandma also quilted. I didn't know my other greats, but I'm sure they did, too. Back then, it was out of need.
I can't wait to be able to afford fabrics enough to start quilts for my grandkids....hopefully at least one of them will also pick up the art!
