TY for all the compliments. When you see the finished product, you'll see that I got tired and started cutting off corners. LOL

Lainee - I'm machine quilting BOTH of these baby quilts. And I will post pictures when done.

Yes, they're baby quilts. The Grandparents are our oldest friends. He (Grandpa Ger) & DH were roomies on the ship in the Navy about a hundred years ago - when DH sent me the plane ticket to follow the cruise. We married in Yokohama. Both Ger & DH flew for Pan Am, then Delta and have been retired since '97. Their sons are MUCH younger than our kids and started having babies 5 years ago. Naturally, I made wedding quilts for both - large wall hangings. One son is a celebrity photographer and used his WQ as background in a photo that was pub in a magazine. No I don't remember which celeb nor which mag, but I was very flattered. The quilt was an abstract 'arty' version of San Francisco hills with a 'hint' of the Golden Gate bridge in the background. I'll try to remember to post a pic when I get back to CT.

He and wife had the 1st grandbaby, and of course I made a baby Q. Little did I dream that ultimately I'd be making the 4th and 5th baby Qs for his bro & wife's twins this year. This family is very special to us. Did I mention that Ger's wife and I have the same birthday?!

Why did I drive myself nuts with this quilt design (my own design, by the way) for a baby quilt? I don't know, but since I was paper piecing the sailboats and suns for 2 at once, I didn't want to stop after I got started. The BIGGEST mistake was deciding to use Kaleidescopes as sky and water. I shd have just done flip and sew. I learned a BIG lesson. I'm gonna put sleeves on both and suggest they use them as wallhangings, which I NEVER do for baby quilts. I usually include the 'It's okay if you sit on your quilt, It's okay if you spit on your quilt' Poem with baby quilts so moms will USE THEM!

Sorry this is so long, but I hope everyone learns from my craziness to NOT make a complicated baby quilt!

Niiice, Joanne. I agree, you did a lot of work for baby quilts. I hope it was fun...bc I am going to do a crazy quilt w/motifs for one of mine.
I'm using a pattern though. :D

QnC - much better idea than matching a lot of corners on the bias! Looking forward to seeing it.

Now that is a LOT Of work for baby quilts, but since you are so close to the family....they are certainly worth your effort AND they will especially love them. Your pattern sounds really cool....I can't wait to see the fronts!!
