Default Dresden Pillow just finished

When I saw Riversong's commissioned Dresden table topper I knew I had to learn to make one of these. I have a new quilting love. These are amazing. My friend's middle daughter just moved out of the house and got her own place. I wanted to make her a decorative pillow as a housewarming. This gave me the perfect opportunity to make my first Dresden. This is also my first official pillow. Official because I made one about 2 years ago that didn't turn out very good. Ever since then I've been afraid to tackle it. I'm not anymore!

Aimee's colors are red, cream, white and black - hence the pillow colors. The back is done in a Kona tan that I had to piece together with 3 strips. Over the seam lines I used a decorative leaf stitch in black.

Something I learned with this project .... if using black fabric on a pillow, either line it or use a pillow form instead of the pillow stuffing. That stuff pokes through the fabric and looks messy!

I love your pillow. I have been wanting to make a deasden quilt. I am like you where it comes to makeing pillows, I had some bad luck with it and it didn't turn out very good so I haven't try to make another.

Very striking...love the back too. I just finished a pansy pillow for my mother (with a zipper back). I don't do many cushions, but I know what you mean about them being tricky. I make my own pillow forms (one way of getting the "ugly" pile down). I also put a lavender sachet in the back (Mum loves the girly stuff).
