Default Stitch in the Ditch.. KICK in the Head!!

I've done work for a friend for several years and she never questions what I ask for, or my suggestions for quilting. So its my own fault that this piece was totally stitch in the ditch, (with a little meander in the maroon sections). It took me a week and after 3 days I hated the piece. But it's done now and it does look good. I DO have to remind her, though, to IRON her backing as well as the front. (She can clean off the lint!)

It looks great! I always wonder with SITD on a pattern like that....do you stay right in the sewing line or a little left or right. If you go a little left or right then where they cross it looks funny.

When the colour contrast is so great I stay on the darker material. I try to stay less than 16th of an inch to the edge, but that really depends on the sewing. If the seams are straight, and hers were really even, then its relatively easy to hold a ruler against the line and follow. Can't do diagonals freehand. And yes there is a lot of starting and stopping to make those breaks where the lattice passes under the top pieces.

The fabric was ancient from a close out a few years ago.

I hate SID unless it is my own quilt. I am real careful about pressing and which way I press to make it easier for the SID. I admire that you did it on someone else's.
