I like to take scraps of fabric, or throw aways that folks won't use, or even some blocks traded or what others discard and refurbish it into Scrappy Abstracts.

Yesterday I decided to take to of my scrappy abstracts I had pieced/sewed together and using my Studio 12.5 inch die proceeded to cut it up.

This evening I finished off what I had not been able to complete yesterday. I have managed out of 2 - 45" X 45-50" sewed pieces gotten a total of 31 - 12.5 squares which I have attached here.

I consider this "step 3" in my "out of the box thinking" process..... 1) saving/gathering scraps; 2) randomly sewing scrap to make large pieces; 3) cutting it into any size I desire which has yielded as I stated 31 - 12 1/2" squares as well as several smaller squares and/or rectangles from left overs. Step 4 will be quilting each block as I go and perhaps creating an applique here and there, where ever I see a piece where it might looks good. Step 5 will be weaving in strips of black fabric in between each block so I will have a full length strip rather than cutting it into pieces. NO I've never done this before but know it can be done. I plan to use black fabric for the back as well. Because of all the colors in these blocks black is the only solid color that looks good and helps bring out each block better. Any other color even if solid would make it look to busy.

This won't be completed any time soon because of doing each block individually with top stitching and applique on a handful of them and than weaving the strips and binding.

I am confident that it will come out looking very nice if I take my time and do it right.

Those are pretty cool. I have 19 quart ziplock baggies of scraps that I bought at a yard sale for a dime a bag...have no clue what to do with them if I decide to keep them.

Just start sewing them like I just did. Than cut it up again. You'd be amazed at what you can do and it come out nice.

Or if you are of the "cookie cutter" nature use varies block patterns and sew them. Once you do you'll know how to place them together.

Your creation looks very nice already and I think the black will set it all off very nicely. I love the way you think outside the box, what a great idea!
