Thank you! That sounds like a nice idea. I wonder if the child ever thought of making the faces on the dolls? I had a friend who got me interested in quilting years ago, she made a life-size pioneer doll, of an elderly lady, with no face. She even made her pioneer dresses and changed her clothes and bonnets. She called her Emma. She kept her in her sun room in a rocking chair. I know over the years I had to ask her why she didn't have a face, but can't remember her answer. She has since died. I keep in touch with her daughter and she still has "Emma", I think I will contact her and see what she says. Thanks once again

The Amish don't put faces on their dolls either. This is in keeping with the Old Testament commandment against making graven images.

The reason Sunbonnet Sue doesn't have a face is because when she was originally created, her hat covered her face. When the SBS theme was carried over to things that were 3 dimensional, like door stops, no one could make a face because no one knows what her face looks like since it has always been hidden by her bonnet.

I made several of these, they use a big soda bottle with sand as a base? I don't know how to post pictures here but have them here. You can see that I added eyes to one of them.

Thanks for sharing the link. And thanks, Barefoot Quilter, for the link. It works great; I printed out the pattern. Another one for my "to do list", lol.
