Default T-Shirt Quilt - A New Twist

There was an ad on Craigslist for a bedroom suite, so my husband and I went to look at it this evening. The lady was super nice, and after we got to talking, we somehow got to the subject of crafts, and as it turns out, we're both avid quilters! How cool is that!

She showed me a T-shirt quilt she'd made for her son, and I thought it was so unusual and fun that I asked to take a photo.

She'd saved her son's clothing from the time he was a baby up until he was a teenager, and starting in the center of the quilt, she used one of his "onesies". As her son grew, she added larger and larger shirts around it, creating the quilt as she went. She filled in any gaps with scraps from other shirts.

On the back side of the quilt, she used the back side of each article of clothing, positioning them in the same manner (smallest to largest). She said she used a layer of cotton batting in between.

My photo's not that great since we were in her basement and it was getting dark, but I think you can get the idea. I wish I could've gotten the whole quilt in the picture but I couldn't get far enough away to capture the whole thing.

When we left (with the furniture ), she gave me a big box of cotton fabric. My husband just left to go pick up the rest of the furniture (all of it wouldn't fit on the truck), and I sent her some goodies in return.

What a fun night! We got "new" furniture and swapped fabric with a new quilting friend!

Here's the photo (and our new furniture - LOL!):

It's so nice when a CL purchase works out like this; so many of them are weird, inaccurate, scams, or in poor condition. Good for you!

That quilt is very creative - great idea and the bedroom suite is just beautiful. But the best part is you met a new quilting friend!

Your 'new' furniture is beautiful! The quilt is a wonderful idea for keeping clothes of all sizes of a child's early years (and more).

What a great quilt. Wish I had been that organized when my kids were little.
And the furniture is pretty, too.
