I second that, trim and you will be much easier to finish with a binding.

Thank you Michele - I made it up myself.

I played with the idea of a small square being surrounded by rectangles, overlapping each other - then coloured in a pattern with pencils - THEN worked out how to stitch it together. I worked out that if I cut the red rectangles in half, I could stitch it all in strips.
Here's my graph paper, the one on the left is the original and shows the base square, the one on the right is the one done after selecting fabrics.
It's all done with 2 1/2" wide strips - could be used with a jelly roll.

(I've only been playing with patchwork since April)

Thank you all for your great comments. I have another one to make - in 'boy' colours and with a different layout for the same pattern. Will post a picture later this week

Here are the finished Zig-Zag runners finished at 11pm Sunday night - ready to be given as gifts to workmates on Monday/Tuesday.
Both the brown/green and the red/green tablerunners are made from the same pattern as shown on the original post, but just the colourway is different.
The back of the runners are not ideal, but they will do the job. There is a bit of pull across most of the inner points on the back. I've done this style now, don't have to try it again... lol

thanks for looking
bronny
