Default Is this a weird way of FMQ'ing a batik background??

I made this appliqued wall hanging for our place in Florida, and stitched all around the fused applique pieces with invisible thread. So far, so good. Then I did what I thought made sense - I started doing a meadering FMQ stitch in the background around the Birds of Paradise. BUT the meandering stitch clashed big time with the water colour effect of the batik background, and so I ripped it all out.

So what now? I decided to try doing a FMQ stitch around the water colour splotches in the background. Sounds weird, I know, but I ended up liking the effect.

Sorry that the first photo is sideways )

I think it looks great! Whatever works, is my mantra in quilting. Your wall hanging is spectacular!

I think it looks great, too. Besides, it's your quilt. You can do anything you want.

I think it is wonderful! You found a great way to really accent the fabrics and quilt it. Isn't that what quilting is supposed to do!?! I think you are going to do this method again.
