This is for our son's girlfriend. When she and our son were here for a weekend last month, I was busy sewing a tote bag for our daughter, also here for a visit, who was leaving to return to NYC the next day. I said that I would be glad to make her a bag too, and sent her to my stash to look for fabrics. She came back with these two fabrics and said that green is her favorite color. Green is not one of my favorites, so these may have been the only two greens! And I have no idea when or why I acquired them.

I sort of made this up myself, but I've read lots of bag patterns, so I know the basics. I don't like loose linings, so I quilted the outside, batting and lining together first. I did French seams on the sides, then folded up the bottom triangle on each side to create the sides. Since I didn't have the lining available to finish the top edge, I bound it with a wide double fold binding. That meant that the straps had to be attached to the outside of the bag, rather than the top edge. The ties on the sides came from the many photos on here of bow tucks bags. This is a large bag, and a little sloppy at the top when it is all the way open, so the ties help hold it together, when the whole size is not needed. With the sides tied together, it is 16" by 16".

Be sure to let me know what you think!
