Patti, most of my I Spy quilts are squares too... I just happened to have a bunch of strips left over after cutting all those squares for I Spys for charity. So I pieced the strips and cut 60 degree triangles and put them together as hexagons. Very easy, actually. The strips were mostly all WOF-- about 42". It didn't matter if they were 2" wide or 4.5" wide. Just sew them together then cut the triangles. (I made half triangles to fill in between the hexes along the sides.)

Here is what my usual I Spys look like... just 5" squares:

This is THE BEST I-Spy quilt I've seen. Mine have always been more of the generic type you've shown on your latest picture. Thanks SO much for sharing how you did it I'm seriously going to have to try to make this
