Default UFO from my grandma

My dad's mom passed away almost 20 years ago now. I was 9. My mom saved this quilt from her things but is not a quilter herself. So, now I've got it and am hoping to finish it...someday.
The top is done and basted with pins to the batting and back. She started some hand quilting, which I have never done, but I'm not sure how much she was planning for each block as only a few were started, and none seem finished. We'll see what I can come up with.

Oh how beautiful! It must be so wonderful to hold the quilt knowing your grandmother once held it herself. I'm sure while your holding the quilt and meditating, it and grandmom will speak to you - you'll know what to do. Of course, first you have to practice hand quilting on scraps if that's what you wish to learn It's like teaching your wee ones to write; it takes time and lots of practice, but it comes to be our own perfect signature.

What a wonderful keepsake. Don't stress over not knowing exactly how she would have quilted it. She would be thrilled that her grandchild has her quilt and is going to complete it! It's very pretty.

That is a very special quilt from your grandma. Take your time deciding how you'll quilt it. Once you decide and you have it finished, be sure to post pictures. Thanks for sharing.

How neat to finish something your grandmother started. What a neat legacy.

Isn't it amazing!?! I'm a little intimidated. I've made 4 quilts, but only 1 of them really had detail to fuss with. I'm kind of an instant results crafter. But I am looking forward to someday figuring out what to do with this beauty and learning a new technique. It really has a great weight and feel to it.

This is such a pretty quilt design. Let us see how you finish it.

The safety pins were better quality back then but check to make sure none are showing signs of rust. You wouldn't want to have it get spots before you get it finished. It is very happy quilt and will look great when you finish it. It will be a good quilt to start hand quilting on. You may be nervous but getting it quilted and ready to display or use is better than it sitting away someplace. Go For It!
