i was searching one of my favorite sites for info on featherweights hosted by dave

http://thefeatherweight221factory.co...oftheweek.aspx

when i came across some information that at one time singer did an insert that went into the top of the lid on the storage cases -- saw some pics and thought well they probably do not make those anymore and i could not find one on ebay -- have never ever even seen one before until i saw it on dave's site

so i sat down and started to design a friction fit insert that could pop in and out of the lid -- snaps or gluing in velco squares would not be an option in my opinion as it would be just too drastic of a measure

i cut a piece of card board from one of my cereal boxes the exact size as the lid

made a cover similar to a small pillow case -- after carefully thinking what items i wanted to have access to -- i began measuring some elastic to hold the items in place --using the button hole attachment i made the holes and then cut the slits -- the buttonhole stitch keeps the fabric from unraveling -- when placing and sewing in the elastic -- remember elastic has a lot of give -- so keep it tight

inserted my cardbroad -- folded under the edges and stitch is shut

works great -- i can pop it in and out and place it on my table when i go to classes -- the little leather singer pouch i found at jo annes fabric shop -- used my 40 percent coupon -- love my coupons -- you can chose the goodies you would like to keep inside such as small scissors, tweezers, needles etc etc

these inserts only work for those featherweights that do not store the foot pedal inside attached to the lid -- have not figured that one out yet and doubt i will as it would require removing the metal bracket

the small pin cushion i made using two canning jar lids -- covered the lids with leather -- made a padded insert and sewed the two lids together with my leather yawl

Your FW is beautiful. I have a nice one but it does not have all the decorative things yours does. Lucky you.

Wow! You should design professionally! Just one good idea after another! the way you did this makes it seem like they should have always come with featherweight cases. I am in love with your FW too!

I love your featherweight!! And what a fun insert you have designed. But how did you get decals like that on your 222??? Have never seen any thing like it.
