Wow...my story is like alot of others here. My fist machine also. I was in my 20's when I invested in my first sewing machine which was a Fashion Mate.
I had it until 10 yrs ago when youngest daugther took it to her homemaking class (?) and broke it!

I have the same machine(no cabinet).I learned to sew on it.
If you go to the Singer site you can download the owners manuel. I keep trying to find a cabinet for mine.

I have this exact same machine. It was given to me. I liked it #1 because it's a Singer , #2 the feed dogs lower so I can FMQ on it. Unfortunately, I recently dropped the food pedal when moving the machine and did some damage to it. Thankfully I have several machines to use.
