Woodsy quilt top
Here is my fourth quilt but the first one that is not a raggy quilt, I plan on putting a plaid border around it and the backing is a fleese tan color, I am wondering if I need to but any batting in between?? And I will hand tie with some yarn for the quilting part, I will post another picture when it is all done but this is what I got so far!

Is the quilt out of flannel or cotton? If it is flannel it should not need batting and may not need it anyway. Depends on how heavy you want it to be. I have used fleece for backings and did not use any batting. I tied one and quilted the other on the machine. I liked the way the tied one came out better. But I am not very good at quilting anyway. I like the look of your quilt. Looks very cozy!

I agree with Patti P. Flannel all by itself is pretty warm, so if you did want to use batting, I would make it the thinner stuff. Unless, of course you want it thick and heavy. That is the beauty of quilting--you get to pick. Can't wait to see it finished.

I love your fabrics. You've done a great job putting it together. My daughters hardly use batting in the quilts they've been making for their babies. But we're in Texas and don't NEED the warmth. I like to use batting anyway especially when I tie a quilt because I love the puffy look when I'm finished. But that's me.
