I use a disappearing fabric marker for machine embroidery and quilting. Only problem is that it disappears so fast that sometimes I can't get what I marked done before it is gone. Does anyone know of one that will stay longer or perhaps until washed? If the phone rings the marks are gone by the time I get back to what I was doing.

there is another marker that looks just like the disappearing one that must be washed out. probably labeled "water erasable"

The one I have is titled "The Fine Line Water Erasable Marking Pen" distributed by Collins and available at any store selling sewing/quilting notions. Removed with plain water.

Dritz makes a blue marker that goes away with water.

I use a purple disappearing marker. I find it tends to stay for several hours unless it gets sunlight on it, in which case, yeah, it'll just vanish straight away. :)

I've used the blue water-erasable markers but have read from several people on this board that the lines reappeared after a year or so and then were brown and indelible. Ouch! I haven't used mine for long enough to know whether that's actually true (sometimes people will just repeat something they've heard!), but it's making me a bit wary of them.

Ihave a double ended marker. Purple end says "disappearing ink" and it goes away pretty quickly. The blue end says "Mark-B-Gone" and it stays until it gets wet. I've had no trouble with either end staining my quilts. I believe it came from Joann's.

Someone on this board mentioned a new marker on the market.
I found it at "Walgreen's". It's called FRIXION made by pilot.
There are 2 in the package.
The marks disappear with friction or an iron.
I am using it on the quilt I am making, called "Essentially Irish"
by Fons & Porter.

I've used both ends of this one and never had an issue with it. My WM sells fabric and they have it.

On the blue (water erasable) pens make sure you don't press the fabric with an iron until you've removed the marks. The heat can set the marks and maybe that what's what salmonsweet is referring too.

The pens I LOVE are the Purple Marvy Markers. The purple stay for a few hours, and will disappear with a spritz of water or just with time. If it happens to be a rainy day or really humid where you are, the marks disappear quicker. In the desert where I am, they sometimes last for days, so I usually use the spray bottle.

I used a Crayola washable marker to mark the last quilt I quilted. Since I was quilting it on my Janome 6600 it took a couple of weeks from the time I first started until I got the binding finished and put the quilt in the wash. I used the marker with the light pink cap as I have heard there are some colors that don't wash out as well as others. Every mark I made came out in the wash.
