I purchased a beautiful lace curtain at a yard sale. I thought if I simply washed it, the smoke smell would come out. NOT! What can I use?

Try soaking them in vinegar or baking soda in the washing machine with water, after soaking wash with detergent. if it's really bad then you might have to do it several times.

You can try laying it in the sun for a day or two.

White vinegar

I agree - white vinegar!

I also use vinegar, but there were posts awhile back that said to put in a bag with a bar of soap. I think it was Irish Spring, but I am not sure. Hopefully someone will tell us for sure what kind.

Vinegar usually works.

Thanks to all who responded. I used the white vinegar and that did the trick!
