I went to my favorite thrift store today to drop off a car load of office supplies from work, and came home with a Singer 301A in cabinet for 25.00!
It had been there for months and they wanted to get rid of it and had already marked it down from 65 to 45.00. I thought it might be a good machine for my granddaughter to learn on. At any rate, I couldn't bear to leave it there looking so forlorn. The cabinet needs to be refinished but it looks like pretty wood. After I managed to get it out of my trunk into the house I plugged it in and it sews a good seam. The machine is dull looking ... what can I use to put a polish on it? |
What a beauty :D:D:D

Love my 301! They are great machines!

Check out Billy's cleaning tutorials in the vintage machine section. People have been getting wonderful results using his methods. This is one of the machines that I would like to have but I haven't been able to find one in my area yet. I'm still looking.

I just got rid of one of those. It was rusted, and the needle worked, but the bobbin wouldn't move. I am going to put my Domestic Rotory in the cabinet.
Yours looks great, though! Good luck with it! |
Every 301 I've seen has the flat paint look. I don't think they had a gloss finish when new.

What a find and what a great buy. Have fun with your new baby

Nice looking machine! Congrat's on rescuing her!

Lucky you! Hope it works well for you. My 15-91 is in a cabinet just like that.
